It is a simple OS that launches Scratch projects directly from it. ScratchOS works online so you don't have to install it, but there's an offline version that can be downloaded.

Feature updates:

  • 03/02/2020 - v. 1.2.18: Beta version shared

  • 06/02/2020 - v. 1.3.19: Stable version shared

  • 10/02/2020 - v. 1.5.20: I added a Feedback app and a speed tester (Thank's @DaMaffles!)

  • 24/02/2020 - v. 1.6.21: Paint app added

  • 20/03/2020 - v. 1.7.21: Music app added

  • 08/05/2020 - v. 1.8.22: After a long time without updates, the webcam function moved from the Cortana app to the home screen and is an independent app. And there's more: ScratchOS doesn't use Microsoft Cortana anymore but has its own AI: Gobo.

  • 13/05/2020 - v. 1.9.24: Big update of ScratchOS! A game app, changeable background, a new theme, cool animations, and many bug fixes - get the new ScratchOS!

  • 08/06/2020 - v. 1.10.28: The previous update was only an appetizer for this new one! You can drag app icons on the home screen, and there is also a new feature in the Camera app that shows the microphone volume instantly. But the best feature is the Vernier controller: Move your GoDirect Force and Acceleration Device to control ScratchOS in a faster way! And now - enjoy it!

  • 15/09/2020 - v. 1.11.0: Introduced Dark and Bright Mode switch.

  • 03/02/2021 - v. 2.0.0: For ScratchOS' birthday, we released a huge update! With an improved design, Logo, and a new calculator, it looks pretty cool! Check it out!

  • 10/02/2021 - v. 2.1.0: We replaced the Force & Acceleration Controls with BitToys, which allows controlling LEGO EV3 and WeDo robots. It also allows controlling ScratchOS with micro:bit devices.

  • 24/02/2021 - v. 2.2.0: A (failed) experiment was to add the piano app to ScratchOS, which was in AxelOS since the beginning of February. It failed because of issues in the Scratch, and we reported them to the Scratch Team. But something is getting to work: we made ScratchOS faster for slow computers (also without TurboWarp). And the Calculator is finally out of beta!

  • 10/03/2021 - v. 2.3.0: We didn't make the tab navigation in the BitToys App only for a better overview, it was especially to make space for the LEGO BOOST Motor controls and the Sensor View in EV3 and WeDo! But also if you aren't a robot programmer, this update would be interesting for you: the CMD, which came in 2.0.2 for IQBit users only, is now available for everybody pressing /+Enter! Try it!

  • 17/03/2021 - v. 2.4.0: Readded Piano app.

  • 20/03/2021 - v. 2.4.1: Merged Settings and Information and improved speed test.

  • 27/03/2021 - v. 2.5.0: A funny comeback of @KillerBytes series "Bob", now integrated with ScratchOS' Video app! I'm 100% sure you will laugh!

  • 29/03/2021 - v. 2.5.1: To the Dark/Light mode, we added a new option, which shows colored backgrounds. Go to the Settings to enable it.

  • 18/04/2021 - v. 2.6.0: To make you stay updated on what happens on Scratch, we added a News app.

  • 04/05/2021 - v. 2.7.0: Hey, what's up? Chat now on the new Meower chat app! Oh, and there's also a new option for developers, where you can see experimental features.

  • 24/09/2021 - v. 3.0.0: Whoa! Another increase of the Version number! Check out the full news on https://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/post/5639748/
